Vincero

The photo by my friend Bob Benbow says it all.

'Vincerò!' (2007) 'Spanish Glow' x 'Persimmon Punch' Tetraploid, 30" tall, 5" flowers, Dormant, Midseason, 27 buds on 6 branches. Color is an orange blend, growing vibrantly intense in heat and humidity. Clean foliage, vigorous growth, fertile both ways. I selected it in 1999 and it has been turning heads ever since. The plants are healthy and vigorous, the scapes wonderful, and the flowers really intense when the humidity and heat crank up. The Italian word, "Vincerò!" is the last word of the famous tenor aria, "Nessun dorma" from Puccini's opera, Turandot.  It means, "I will win!" and is more glorious heard, and seen here in the garden, than read on a page!
